First Anniversary: Programming Guide

The Dorothy Lumley Melrose Center for Technology, Innovation & Creativity will announce the winners of the Melrose Contest to the public at noon. Below you’ll find a complete programming guide including information on displays and appearances from featured guests.

TECHNOLOGY & DIGITAL MEDIA

  • Beat Making: Join our experts in creative beat making using MIDI controllers and keyboards. Every hour at 1:30pm, 2:30pm, 3:30pm and 4:30pm in the Editing Bays.
  • Lights, Camera, Action! You’re invited to star in mega mecha movie with the Killer Robots! Transport to the exciting world of The Killer Robots and share in their adventures!
  • Live Recording Session: The Melrose Center offers live audio Open Sessions for its students to attend for hands-on experience. Watch our experts record the Orlando Big Band in the Audio Studio. Throughout the event in the Audio Studio.
  • Picture Perfect: Don’t miss out on a photo opportunity that’s out of this world. Be sure to bring your camera! Every hour at 1pm, 2pm, 3pm and 4pm in the Photo Studio.
  • Minecraft Free Play: Join other Minecraft enthusiasts at the Creative Workstations to build imaginative structures, adventure with friends or battle creatures in The Nether.

INNOVATION

  • 3D Digitizing: Watch as any small object is scanned into a 3D virtual file. Demos throughout the event.
  • 3D Modeling at Your Fingertips: Use 3D motion control to create virtual sculptures, sketches and fractal designs without a keyboard or mouse. Hands-on throughout event.
  • 3D Printing in Action: Watch a 3D design come to life right in front of your eyes. Demos throughout the event.
  • Test Drive a Sim: Experience the world of flight, driving and construction with immersive 3D simulators. Hands-on throughout event in the Simulation Lab.
  • The Digital Wall: Interact with lively digital displays and story board projects on a 8′ x 4.5 ‘ display wall. Hands-on throughout event.

CREATIVITY

  • DIY Greeting Cards: See how to transform digital designs into one-of-a-kind works of art using the Silhouette Electronic Cutter. Demo at 1:30pm in the FabLab.
  • Draw a Circuit: See how to create a circuit on paper with blinking LED lights using electrical conductive paint. Demo at 3:30pm in the FabLab.

American Society of Civil Engineers
The American Society of Civil Engineers represents more than 145,000 members of the civil engineering profession in 174 countries. The ASCE Education Committee will be presenting Civil Engineering through hands-on demonstrations. Stop by and chat with a local civil engineer.
Bangarang – Timber Creek High School Robotics Team
Bangarang, the Timber Creek High School Robotics Team, is comprised of Project Lead The Way engineering students and recently won five trophies at the VEX Robotics Competition.

Exploding Bacon, a FIRST Robotics Team
4-H Exploding Bacon Robotics Club is a FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Competition (FRC) team based in Orlando, Florida. Adults serve as mentors to guide the student members in team management, engineering, computer programming, and essential leadership skills. The goal is to inspire students to pursue degrees in science, technology, engineering and math while teaching them gracious professionalism. Don’t miss the opportunity to  see Porcus Magnus and W-Ham-O in action!

FamiLAB
FamiLAB is Central Florida’s provider of space, tools, and community for creative technical learning and projects. If you are looking for a great place to meet like-minded people, learn, collaborate on projects, and have access to great tools, FamiLAB is the place for you!

Indienomicon
The Indienomicon community banded together on a mission to bring awareness to the excitement, culture and incredible talent of indie developers in Central Florida. The community includes professional game developers, students, hobbyists, and players that meet in a family-friendly and fun atmosphere.
The Killer Robots!
The Killer Robots! is a multimedia experience encompassing music, movies and the intertubes. Combining their love for music, comic books and Sci-Fi movies this guerrilla troupe stages shows with goofball music and interactive elements. Meet with The Killer Robots! throughout the event and become part of the act in the Video Studio.

Orlando Big Band
Orlando Big Band is a volunteer organization where music and philanthropy meet to preserve and promote music. Volunteer musicians play swing, dance and big band music from the 1930s through the 1950s. Visit the Audio Production Studio throughout the event to watch this fun and exciting group record with professional audio engineers.

Orlando Podcasters
The Orlando Podcasters talk about Podcasting technology, setups, software, services, techniques, tips and tricks. Join members to learn more about Podcasting and try out some Podcasting gear.

Orlando Robotics & Makers Club
The Orlando Robotics & Makers Club is building a strong Robotics and Maker community in Central Florida. They are passionate about strengthening the community by increasing STEM / STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) skills for all people and supporting education for everyone from preschoolers through retirees. Club members will be sharing their knowledge of robotics, 3D printing, radio controlled airplanes, micro-controllers and other Maker projects.

Orlando Virtual Reality Meetup
The Orlando Virtual Reality Meetup provides a place to promote and learn more about virtual reality (VR) projects happening in Orlando. Join this group of enthusiasts to learn more about VR and try out a variety of demos.

The Pink Team
The Pink Team will showcase their award winning robots from the 2014 Chesapeake Regional FIRST Competition. The Pink Team is a FIRST robotics team comprised of students from Rockledge, Cocoa Beach, Viera and Space Coast High Schools.

Rebel Legion & 501st Legion
The Rebel and 501st Legions are Star Wars costuming organization created by, of and for people interested in creating costumes from the Star Wars mythos.
