Melrose Creative Expo – February 15

Join us on Saturday, February 15 for the 2020 Melrose Creative Expo, celebrating the 6th anniversary of the Dorothy Lumley Melrose Center for Technology, Innovation and Creativity!  The Expo will begin with the 2020 Melrose Awards presentation, honoring the top projects created by patrons using Melrose Center resources over the past year.  Awards will be presented in six categories: Digital Media Design, Maker, Music Recording, Photography, Voice Recording and Video.

The Melrose Creative Expo also features live performances, VR, studio and simulator experiences, Fab Lab fun, photo portraits, community exhibitors and more.  It’s the perfect day to see everything the Melrose Center has to offer!

Melrose in the Mix – The TV Show!

The Orange County Library System and WUCF have partnered to bring our Melrose in the Mix live recording series to TV!  Tune in to WUCF on Thursday, January 23 at 8:30 p.m. for the premiere episode featuring Orlando singer-songwriter Terri Binion.  The Melrose in the Mix series will feature a new episode on the third Thursday each month from February through June, with each episode also starting at 8:30 p.m.  The schedule will feature The Pauses on February 20, Steve Garron on March 19, AMiAM on April 16, The Vapor caves on May 21, and Beth McKee on June 18.

Melrose Monster Makers on the Loose!

The whole Melrose Center is coming together for a family-friendly Meetup of gargantuan proportions on Wednesday, July 17.  Journey through the Fab Lab, Video Studio and Audio Studio and experience the making of a giant creature feature.  Participate in a range of movie monster making techniques from a variety of eras.  Activities include old school Japanese man-in-suit style model destruction, green screen acting, foley sound effects, and modern day CGI motion capture technology.  Be sure to join us as we destroy the library and the whole city!

Melrose in the Mix 2019

The 2019 Melrose in the Mix season kicked off the first weekend in March. On Saturday, March 2nd, local band Artefacto blended nuances of alternative rock, pop and electronic music, performing a clutch of powerful songs sung in Spanish. On Sunday, March 3rd, veteran Orlando singer-songwriter Marc With a C played solo versions of some of his older classics for his loyal fans. Marc’s session will be released as one of the vinyl sides on his upcoming triple album career retrospective. Earlier this month, on April 6th, we welcomed critically-acclaimed folksinger John John Brown, as he performed some songs from his latest album as well as his current project, New York Photo Songs.

The rest of 2019 is taking shape and is set up to be an amazing year of live recording sessions. Here’s a look ahead:

2019 Melrose Awards Winners

The 2019 Melrose Creative Expo took place on February 16, featuring numerous interactive experiences throughout the Center and engaging exhibitors from around the community.  The Expo began with the 2019 Melrose Awards presentation, honoring the top projects created over the last year using Melrose Center resources.  The 2019 winners: Audio: H. Gorlitz Scott, Director’s Pick: Josue Gimbernard, Video and Grand Prize: Laura Leandra Bland, Digital Media Design: Krystina Ramos, Photo: Melissa Westbrook.
