Melrose Service Availability Update

We are happy to announce that the two Editing Bays are now available for reservation. The Editing Bays provide access to computers with professional editing software and are a great place for you to edit your audio and video projects. Once you’ve completed the General Orientation, you can reserve an Editing Bay for your next project!

The Flight Simulator in the Melrose Center’s Sim Lab will be available for reservation starting in April! Your dreams of flying planes can finally become reality—virtual reality, that is. To reserve the simulator, you’ll need to attend the General Orientation and participate in a brief assessment that will test your proficiency using the controls and equipment. If you’ve never used a flight simulator, don’t despair, we have a hands-on flight simulation class that will teach you everything you need to know. We encourage you to register for the Flight Simulator: Introduction to Aeronautics class before you participate in the assessment.

Give us a call at 407.835.7323 or visit the Center for more information.

Hope to see you soon!

Melrose Center General Orientations are now available and can be reserved online. Since this orientation is a prerequisite for entry to the Melrose Center, sign up now and get ahead of the crowd.

Don’t forget, our Melrose Center Opening Day event is coming up fast on Saturday, February 8. This event is free to the public and will run from noon to 5pm. Melrose Center Gala Night will be held the night before on Friday, February 7 and will begin at 6:30 pm. Tickets are on sale now.

Media Visits

Technology and Education staff members have recently been excited to host visits from local media interested in the progress of the Dorothy Lumley Melrose Center.  We were delighted to have journalists from the Orlando Sentinel visit and write an article about the Melrose Center and the Orlando Public Library in general.  A TV crew from the Orlando Telemundo Broadcasting Company got a firsthand look at the Center in its development stages and was given a run through of the Fab Lab technology behind the scenes.  Take a look at our “celebrity” staff members and newest board member Hernan Tagliani, as they publicize the Melrose Center and our anticipated opening.

And don’t forget to keep watching the blog for further details about the Melrose Center and technology classes at the Orlando Public Library.

What’s Going on Behind the Walls?

During the past few weeks, Orlando Public Library visitors have been hearing the sounds of construction on our 2nd floor and many have excitedly asked, “What’s going on behind the walls now?”  This week we can offer a sneak peek of the construction area that will become the Dorothy Lumley Melrose Center for Technology, Innovation & Creativity.  This area is now a “hard hat area,” however; our Skanska representative gave us a behind the scenes look.  Here are some of the photos we took on the tour.  We are looking forward to eventually showcasing the “before” and “after” photos here on our blog.  Keep checking in with us for further construction updates.

If you are planning to visit the library this weekend, come to our Basic Electronics Using Snap Circuits interactive workshop at 2pm on Sunday and stay for our 3:30 pm Machines, Motion and Engineering using K’NEX interactive workshop.
